Set Down
Setdown, Litigation and Statistics Unit
The department specializes in bail applications for bail pending trial that are made to the High Court in relation to serious offences such as murder, rape, and armed robbery.
In addition to bail applications, the department advises the police on investigations and drafts legal opinions to guide case preparation and prosecution.
The Setdown Unit peruses complete dockets, prepares indictments, and sets down matters that are ready for trial. It also prosecutes all murder trials in the High Court.
Beyond trial work, the department is responsible for compiling monthly and quarterly reports from all provinces and preparing a consolidated annual report, ensuring accountability and transparency in litigation statistics.
