Sexual Offences and Children in Conflict with the Law Unit

There are a range of crimes that can be considered as sexual offences, including non-consensual crimes such as rape or sexual assault, crimes against children including child sexual abuse or grooming, and crimes that exploit others for a sexual purpose, whether in person or online.

Sexual offences can occur between anyone — partners, spouses, strangers, friends, acquaintances, or family members. The passage of time does not prevent the effective prosecution of sexual offences. Prosecutors will take the matter to court as long as there is evidence to support the allegations.

It is widely recognised that there are significant challenges in prosecuting cases involving sexual offences. To address these challenges, the NPA has established a specialised unit within the litigation section: the Sexual Offences and Children in Conflict with the Law Unit.

This dedicated team of specialist prosecutors works closely with partner agencies and victim representative groups to develop best practices in the prosecution of these cases. Their mission is to support victims, uphold justice, and ensure that cases are finalised efficiently, professionally, and with compassion.
